Snowy Mountains Trip - Day 2

Day 2 - 26/4/2011 - Goondiwindi to Parkes

Again another early start.  On the road by 8am and heading to Parkes via Moree, Narrabri, Coonabarabran and Dubbo.

Early morning start

We stopped briefly at Narrabri to take some photos down by the Namoi River which runs through the town.  The lunch stop was the town park in Coonabarabran.  This was the first town where we started to see the real autumn leaves on the trees.  A really scenic spot.

Coonabarabran park
All the way to Dubbo along the road we would see cotton which had blown off the back of the cotton trucks.   The landscape from Goondiwindi to Dubbo was very flat - big open plains - perfect for the cotton & grain crops they grow there.

The caravan park that we stayed at in Parkes, (Spicer Park Caravan Park), was on the side of a hill and didn’t really have any unpowered flat sites that were big enough for us to stay hitched up, (Photo in Day 3).  They put us on a powered site and only charged us for unpowered because we weren’t plugging in.  We didn’t get a chance to look at the other caravan parks while we were there so we’re not sure how they compare.  The Spicer Park Van Park was fairly quiet at night which was good. It backs onto the town sports fields so there was a bit of noise from the local footballers playing until about 8pm but after that it was quiet.
