Oz Trip - Day 60

Day 60 – 30/6/2012 – Darwin

Because we finished Kakadu two days ahead of schedule we didn't have any accommodation organised in Darwin. So we stopped off in Jabaru to make some calls to see if we could get into anything. No success. Being school holidays and peak nomad season all of the van parks were pretty much fully booked. We decided to chance it and headed for the place that we had a booking for for in a couple of days. Luckily they were able to fit us in even though we turned up earlier than expected.

On the way into Darwin we found a nice little spot called the Bark Hut. Had we know about this we would have stayed there if we couldn't get into Darwin.

We set up camp in the Big 4 at Howard Springs. It is basically a suburb 25km out of the Darwin CBD. A very nice park. It had a nice cool feeling to it despite being surrounded by a dry semi-rural landscape.

That afternoon we went for a drive into the beach side suburbs of Darwin and the CBD to get our bearings and also work out where and what we wanted to see in more detail over the next couple of days.
