Berridale Trip - Day 9 to Day 11

Day 9 to 11 – 21/4/2017 to 23/4/2017 – Gilgandra, Goondwindi, Home

It was a slow start to the morning. I think we were trying to deny the inevitable of starting to head for home. As we were leaving town we went for a drive through the main street of Tumut.

Berridale Trip - Day 8

Day 8 – 20/4/2017 Tumut Rest Day

It was nice to have a day just sitting around camp and nothing planned. You couldn’t have ordered better weather. Here are a few photos from around camp.

Berridale Trip - Day 7

Day 7 – 19/4/2017 – Berridale to Tumut

Unfortunately, it was the day that we had to leave to start heading home . But before we did head off I had one last fly around with the drone . I was initially going to fly over to the large rock that stood out on top of the nearby ridge. I was still only new to flying the drone and getting use to controlling it. I made it to about 470m away from me and chickened out. It was still a long way over to the rock and because we were leaving this morning I couldn’t really afford to have it run out of battery and land so far away and then have to go searching for it. It will have to wait until another visit when I have a lot more experience. I am sure the rock is not going anywhere any time soon.

Very hard to see but the large rock is centre of the photo on the horizon
I later worked out that I was still about 1.75km from getting to the rock. So I will definitely have to make sure that the battery is fully charged on the next attempt!

Berridale Trip - Day 6

Day 6 – 18/4/2017 – Thredbo Day Trip

It was such another fantastic clear morning I couldn't help but take a few more photos from around The Farm.

Berridale Trip - Day 5

Day 5 – 17/4/2017 – Berridale/Cooma Day

It turned out to be a pretty cool night. It dropped to 2.5deg C! I hadn’t really noticed when I was out taking photos around the place even though I was still in a short sleeved shirt and shorts with only a vest jumper on. It was a great testament to the warming properties of the beer cloak!  The morning was also just right for a few more photos!

Berridale Trip - Day 4

Day 4 – 16/4/2017 – Forbes to Berridale

The temperature only dropped down to 7.5 overnight, which was nice and cool but not cold, yet! It was a nice change. It was going to be another big day driving but I still had some time to get a few photos of the van park and the Lachlan River before we departed.

Berridale Trip - Day 1 to Day 3

Day 1 to Day 3 – 13/4/2017 to 15/4/2017 – Bundaberg to Forbes

We decided to do a quick trip south to one of our favourite regions of Australia, the Snowy Mountains, area over the Easter break. The main purpose was to visit some family and friends that we hadn’t seen for a while. It was still Queensland school holidays and Easter is traditionally a busy period on the roads, so we decided to make a start a day earlier than Good Friday to try and avoid some of the traffic. It also allowed us to take our time packing up and locking up the house. The aim of the first day was not to do big kilometres, but to just get on the road. We didn’t end up getting away until after lunch.

We had a few options on where we thought we might like to get too. In the end, we made to the Stuart River free camp. It was a good spot as it took the pressure off getting to Goondwindi the next day as well.

Kroombit Tops Boys Trip - Day 3

Day 3 – 12th March 2017 Kroombit Tops to Home

Again, it was a bit of a slow start as none of us really wanted to pack up and go home. After a never-ending supply of pancakes, mental note 1 less container of pancake mix for next time, we cleaned up and were packed up by about 10:30. On the way out we back tracked a couple of kilometres to check out the Razorback camp ground because we didn’t investigate it on the way in. It was a lot smaller area.

Kroombit Tops Boys Trip - Day 2

Day 2 – 11/3/2017 - “Beautiful Betsy” plane crash site

We weren’t really rushing to get on the road. All that we had planned for today was to visit the “Beautiful Betsy” plane crash site, complete the 4wd loop and then visit the lookout. Nothing beats an early morning smouldering campfire in the crisp clean air topped off with the smell of bacon and eggs cooking!

There were plenty of warnings not to camp under these widow makers!

Kroombit Tops Boys Trip - Day 1

Day 1 – 10/3/2017 - Bundaberg to Kroombit Tops

It had been a while since the last “Boys Trip”. It had taken a few months to lock in a date and decide where to go. We needed something central because people were coming from Bundy and Mackay. So, we decided on a camping weekend in the Kroombit Tops National Park.

One of the goals for the weekend, apart from drinking beer around the fire, was to do a bit of 4wding and visit the Beautiful Betsy plane crash site, and if we had time the escarpment track bush walk.

I picked up Dwayne and Rhiess and we headed off to Biloela via Mt Perry and Monto, a much more scenic and traffic-less drive then the boring Bruce Highway. While we were at Monto stretching the legs and having an original pizza shapes smoko, we received a txt message that Jeff had already broken down when leaving Rocky. Luckily it was only a flat battery and they were on their way relatively easily.

Jeff and Brendan arrived in Biloela before us so we met them at the local camping shop where we had a look for any last minute camping gear. From there it was off to the local RSL for a counter lunch. After lunch, we did a final food and beer shop and then it was time to hit the road.

We were taking the Razorback Track up into the national park. The first stop along the way was at Kroombit Dam. We took this opportunity to let the tyres down.
