Day 3 – 4/5/2012 - St George to
Lightening Ridge
Another short day. Even though we
slept in until about 7:30, we were on the road just before 9am.
First stop was Dirranbandi for smoko and we made Lightening Ridge for
lunch. We checked into the Opal Caravan park which was only a couple
of hundred meters from the Artesian Baths. After lunch we had a swim
in the baths. It was fantastic. The water was a constant 40deg. So
relaxing.
After the swim we dropped our wet gear
off back at the camper and then headed out to have a look at some of
the “Car Door” tours that they have in town. Basically there are car doors painted a colour that you follow around some dirt tracks. Interesting to say
the least. On the “Green Door” tour we came to a lookout over
the surrounding landscape.
There were quite a few “interesting”
buildings all around the areas where people have sunk mine shafts for
opals. Here is one of them
