Day 22 - 15/2/2014 – Hobart Day Trip
After a couple of early starts and big driving days, it was time for
a bit of a slow day. After a bit of a slow start we headed into
Hobart for a bit of a quick look around but the first stop on the way
was Mt Wellington. We were lucky enough to be able to catch some
glimpses of the city through the breaks in the clouds.

After wandering around for a while we headed down to Hobart for a
quick walk around Constitution Dock. It was good to actually see the
place first hand as opposed to the finish of the Sydney to Hobart
yacht race. We found a fish and chip place to grab a quick lunch
before heading off to the next place of interest – we were booked
on the last tour of the Cascade Brewery tour of the day and we had to
find our way there!
This was just one of the many of the old stone buildings that are in
the CBD. It is the home of the Hobart Real Tennis Club. Real Tennis
is the version of tennis that modern day tennis is derived from. It
is sort of like a mixture of squash and tennis, a squash court with a
tennis net. It would have been great to have had more time to just
wander the CBD look at all of the old buildings.
We made it to the brewery just on time for the tour. The tour was
fantastic as you get to go through the old brewery building to see
how everything is done. Unfortunately because it was a Saturday they
weren't bottling but you still got a real sense of the operation.
The guide also told some stories of the good old days before work
place health and safety. It was amazing to hear how much beer the
workers were able to have on their breaks and still work, and not to
mention drive home!! Unfortunately no photos were allowed inside the
building.
