Oz Trip - Day 108

Day 108 – 17/8/2012 – Cape Leveque (Kooljaman) Day Trip

We set off after breakfast to Kooljaman at Cape Leveque for a day trip. When we arrived we were greeted with fantastic ocean views over the red sandstone cliffs. After obtaining our day pass we walked down to the fishing beach. It wasn't a good a beach for swimming due to the strong currents.

It was here that we first noticed all of the whales. We headed back to the camp ground as there was a bit of a lookout over the headland and spent a bit of time watching and trying to get a good photo of them. It was unbelievable how many there were. No matter which way you turned, you could see them breeching, their tails slapping the water or their water spouts.

After the on shore whale watching we walked down for a swim at the swimming beach. It was fantastic. The water was crystal clear and it was nice and calm. It also happened to be close to high tide.

After a late lunch and a bit more whale watching we decided we had to start heading back to Middle Lagoon. On the way there we visited One Arm Point.

It was a tiring drive back to Middle Lagoon along the dirt road as you were looking directly into the setting sun and also dust from other vehicles. We made it back to Middle Lagoon just in time to catch the sunset.
