Alice Springs & Lawn Hill Trip - Day 10

Day 10 - 11/6/2016 - Finke Desert Rally Prologue Day

Today was the first real race day.  It was a nice and chilly start for getting to the track early, 6.8deg.  The competitors were doing a time trial to work out the starting order for the following day.  The cars and buggies started at 8:30am with the bikes and quads at 11:15am.

We always like the prologue day because you are at the start and finish line.  You get to see them go out and then come back in again.

Starting with some of the slowest first - pretty much a stock BT-50

A bit of two wheel action
And still on two wheels
Toby Price a little off course
Not your average Triton!

Some action on the other side of the circuit

I would like some of those shocks on the Pajero!

Toby Price was was attempting the Finke Ironman.  Only the second time ever that it has been attempted, and never by a someone who was defending their bike win.  He was going to try and do the race in both a car and on the bike.  After the prologue he had qualified 9th in the trucks and 1st on the bikes.

The bikes leaving for their sighting lap

Toby Price looked a lot smoother on the bike than in the truck

We didn’t hang around for all of the bikes to finish the time trial.  We headed back to camp for lunch and then spent the afternoon doing shopping and some cooking in preparation for the next stage of the trip in a few days time.

It is not every day you see a tank getting shipped around!
