Alice Springs & Lawn Hill Trip - Day 18

Day 18 - 19/6/2016 - Adels Grove and Lawn Hill National Park

After the wet day yesterday, today was absolutely fantastic.  Hardly a cloud in the sky and no rain in site.  It was a good drying day, to dry out the mud

The caked on mud!
At least with being dry it was starting to fall off of its own accord
We spent the morning wandering around the grounds at Adels Grove and getting our bearings.  We were camped in the Top Campground which we needed for good solar.

We never had any neighbours the whole time we were here!
Although the bottom campground or “The Grove” had some sites that were a lot more scenic looking out over the creek, it was a lot darker and damper.

After lunch it was around 27 degrees so we decided to go for a swim in the water hole at the Grove.  Being just before school holidays it was great as we had the waterhole virtually to ourselves.  I think it would be a different story if you were here in the middle of school holidays!

The whole lagoon to ourselves!
It doesn't get much better than this!
After cooling off we drove out to Lawn Hill National Park itself.  It was about a 10km drive further up the road.  We were doing a bit of reconnaissance for tomorrow.  We were planning to make an early start to hire a canoe to paddle up the gorge.  There were only a limited number of canoes available so we wanted to know how long it was going to take us to get there and work out where we needed to go.

As soon as we entered the National Park you could immediately tell where the grader repairing the roads had stopped.  It was instantly rougher!  Luckily we didn't have to try and negotiate this type of mud on the way in.

It was amazing how fast it dried out, but we still weren't game to get off the main wheel tracks.
Where the canoes were hired from was a nice shallow inlet to the waterhole

And we also had a wander through the camping area for future reference

We headed back to camp, and after a hard day of exploring, it was time for a few nice cold beverages on the Deck at the Grove!
