Snowy Mountains Trip - Day 22

Day 22 - 16/5/2011 - Tamworth to Girraweean NP

We woke up at 7:30 to a -2.7 degree morning!  It had gotten down to -4.1 degrees overnight and there was ice on the windscreen of the vehicles.  It was funny to think that it was actually warmer in the fridge than out of it!

Icy!!

We set off and our first stop was Uralla for morning tea.  The sun was out and it was a lovely day.  Evelyn and Allan had been through Uralla on their way down from Bundaberg and knew it was a nice little town.  We’ll have to go back again one day when we have more time.

After morning tea we travelled in convoy on to Glen Innes.  We stopped at the large park in the city centre when we arrived. We said goodbye to Evelyn and Allan as they were planning to drive through to Toowoomba and wanted to keep moving.  We were only going to Girraween National Park so we had an early lunch in the park and then went for a walk through the main street of Glen Innes.  The town had a really nice feel to it.  Lots of great old buildings still standing!

After our walk we headed for Girraween - we passed through Tenterfield but didn’t stop because we knew we were coming back there later the next day.

We arrived at the National Park and paid our camping fees.  There was a large group of school kids camping in the main camping area but we weren’t too worried by this - they were far enough away not to hear them too much!  As long as you didn’t meet up with them in the shower block it was fine!  We thought that we might have been a bit on the cool side but the kids were just camped under big tarps!!.  No side walls or anything!!!!

Girraween Camp Site - not a great site for the solar!
