Day 23 - 17/5/2011 - Tenterfield Day Trip
It was a slow start to the day as we were having a bit of a rest day and we didn’t have much planned. We drove back to Tenterfield today for a bit of a look around. We walked from the Information Centre down the Main Street and back. We didn’t think it was as nice as Glen Innes but it was still good to have a look around and get to know the town a bit better. On the way back to camp we took lots of photos of the lovely autumn trees on the drive north out of town.

Tenterfield Saddler as mentioned in the Peter Allen song |
After lunch we went for a quick walk to take some photos down by the river. The Junction track was closed due to the damage from the floods. It would have been very interesting to see how much it had changed as we only did the walk at the end of November the year before. The amount of water coming through there must have been amazing - you could see the debris in the bushes by the river. It would have been an amazing sight!
I still went for a bit of a wander and took some more photos while Jodie went back to the campsite and had a shower (before the hordes of school girls descended on the showers again!).

The Pyramid - I am still yet to find time to climb it! |

If you look closely, you can see 4 people on The Pyramid |
While taking photos around camp I spotted a snake up in a fork of a tree. I am not sure what happened to this snake. Maybe it didn’t get out of the tree quick enough and froze when a cold snap came through. In 3 days it didn’t change shape or thaw out. There were also no birds having a feast on it either. I would be interested if anyone else has any theories on what happened to it.

Strange sleeping position! |
We were eating dinner by about 5 o’clock and had cleaned up by about 6 o’clock. By 6.30 we were in bed with the diesel heater going!!! Talk about an early night - it feels like midnight though because it gets dark and cold so early!
