Oz Trip - Day 26

Day 26 - 27/5/2012 – Uluru Base walk

We started the base walk around Uluru at about 9:30am. It was pretty amazing being up close to the rock. You really don't get a sense of how big it is until you drive and walk up to it. We did the complete loop around the rock and all of the side tracks into the water holes etc. All up it was about 12km. Even though it was flat our legs still felt it for some reason.

The carpark at the base of the climb
By the time we arrived back at the start I was too tired to try to do the climb so we headed back to camp for lunch.

After lunch we did a quick trip around the resort to get our bearings where everything was. It is a massive resort. There are about 3 or 4 motels which cater for all levels of accommodation style. From 5 star down to Contiki backpacker style. The town centre had a few tourist shops, restaurants, cafe and an IGA shop. It was the best stocked IGA that we had ever seen. It even had some stuff that the Woolies at Bargara doesn't have!

That afternoon I went back to the sunset viewing area to take some photos of the sun setting on Uluru while Jodie stayed at camp. We saw how busy the carpark was the afternoon before so I arrived at about 5:15 for a 6:05 sunset. This allowed me to try and get a good position. I planned to generate a time lapse of the sunset so I setup the tripod and set the camera to take a photo every 15sec and just sat back and watched. Here is the result.  You may have to go to the web page because I don't know if the link to the video gets sent in the e-mail.

And here is one frame from the sunset timelapse
